Hull Construction & Durability

We manufacture the Argo 136XP hull using our exclusive RAM-X™ multi-layer polyethylene process, which creates a lightweight yet impact-resistant structure. This thermoformed construction withstands scrapes against rocks, logs, and shoreline without cracking or puncturing.

The sit-on-top design means water drains through scupper holes rather than pooling in a cockpit, making the kayak naturally self-bailing and easy to re-enter after swimming. The hull’s flat bottom provides excellent initial stability for beginners, while the slight rocker at bow and stern helps the kayak turn responsively in calm water. UV inhibitors in the material prevent sun fade and degradation even after years of outdoor storage.

Seating & Comfort Features

Each paddler sits in a contoured molded seat well designed to keep you centered over the kayak’s stability sweet spot. Our ERGOFORM™ padded backrests attach to the seat wells via adjustable straps, letting you dial in lumbar support and recline angle.

Four molded footrests at different distances from each seat accommodate paddlers from 5’2″ to 6’4″ tall. You can position your feet for optimal stroke leverage without your knees feeling cramped. Two molded-in bottle holders keep drinks within easy reach, and paddle keeper loops on each side let you secure your paddle when you stop to fish or take photos.

Storage & Gear Management

Front Storage Well

The bow storage well measures approximately 18 inches by 24 inches and features crisscrossing bungee cords to secure dry bags, a tackle box, or a small soft cooler. This well sits ahead of the front paddler, keeping your gear accessible without interfering with paddle strokes.

Rear Storage Well

The stern storage well spans roughly 24 inches by 30 inches with a similar bungee system. This larger area accommodates camp gear, additional clothing layers, or a medium-sized cooler. Both wells drain through scupper holes so splashed water won’t pool around your cargo.

Perfect for family lake days
We bought the Argo 136XP for paddling with our teenage daughter, and it's been fantastic. The kayak feels very stable even when we're shifting around to take photos or pass snacks. The backrests are way more comfortable than the foam pads on our old kayak. We've had it out a dozen times this summer with zero issues.

Great stability and tracking
My husband and I use this kayak on calm rivers and small lakes near our cabin. It tracks surprisingly straight for a recreational kayak, and the storage wells hold all our gear for day trips. We can lift it onto our SUV roof racks without straining. Very happy with the quality for the price.

Comfortable seats, easy to paddle
I'm 6'2" and my wife is 5'5", and we both fit comfortably with the adjustable footrests. The padded backrests make long paddles way more enjoyable than our friends' hard-shell seats. Only minor complaint is that I wish the rear storage well had a slightly deeper bungee grid, but overall this kayak exceeded our expectations.

Beginner-friendly and forgiving
This was our first kayak purchase, and we couldn't be happier. The Argo 136XP feels incredibly stable—I never worry about tipping when my wife shifts her weight or reaches for something. It's easy to get in and out of, and the open design means we don't feel trapped like in a sit-inside kayak. Highly recommend for new paddlers.

Tough hull holds up great
We've dragged this kayak up rocky shorelines and bumped into plenty of logs over the past year. The hull still looks great with only minor scratches that don't affect performance. The storage wells fit our cooler and dry bags perfectly. We paddle at least twice a week during summer, and it's been completely reliable.

Good value for recreational paddling
We wanted an affordable tandem for casual lake paddling, and the Argo 136XP fits that need perfectly. It's not a performance kayak, but it's stable, comfortable, and easy to handle. The bottle holders and paddle keepers are nice touches. We've taken it on calm rivers and small lakes with no complaints. Solid choice for the price point.

Good to know

Common Questions About the Argo 136XP

The Argo 136XP has a maximum capacity of 500 pounds, which includes the combined weight of both paddlers and all gear. For best paddling performance and stability, we recommend keeping your total loaded weight between 350 and 450 pounds.

This capacity comfortably accommodates two average-sized adults plus approximately 100 pounds of gear such as coolers, dry bags, and fishing equipment.

Yes, you can paddle the Argo 136XP solo by sitting in the rear seat position, though the kayak is designed primarily for tandem use. When paddling alone, the kayak will sit bow-high in the water unless you add ballast weight in the front storage well to level the hull.

For frequent solo paddling, you may prefer one of our dedicated single-person models that are lighter and better balanced for one paddler.

The Argo 136XP weighs approximately 82 pounds. Two people of average strength can comfortably lift and carry the kayak using the four molded carrying handles positioned at each corner of the hull.

For loading onto roof racks, one person lifts the bow while the other supports the stern. The hull's manageable width and well-placed handles make it realistic for most couples to transport without additional help.

The Argo 136XP is designed for calm to moderate water conditions such as lakes, ponds, slow-moving rivers, and protected coastal bays. We do not recommend this kayak for ocean surf zones, strong currents, or water conditions with waves exceeding one foot.

The sit-on-top design and recreational hull shape prioritize stability over wave-handling performance. For coastal environments, always check local conditions and stay within sight of shore.

The Argo 136XP kayak includes the hull, two ERGOFORM™ padded seat backs, and all hull-integrated features such as storage wells and carrying handles. Paddles and personal flotation devices (life jackets) are sold separately.

We recommend selecting paddles between 220 and 240 centimeters long for tandem paddling, and always wearing a properly fitted USCG-approved life jacket while on the water.

The Argo 136XP works with standard crossbar roof rack systems, including round bars, square bars, and factory side rails. Position the kayak upside-down across the crossbars so it rests on the hull edges rather than the deck.

Secure the kayak with cam straps around the hull at each crossbar, and always use bow and stern tie-downs attached to your vehicle's tow hooks or frame. The flat hull bottom distributes weight evenly across the rack bars.

Yes, the Argo 136XP's hull can accommodate aftermarket accessories such as flush-mount rod holders, fish finders, and anchor trolleys. You will need to drill mounting holes through the hull, which we recommend having done by an experienced kayak outfitter to maintain hull integrity.

The front and rear storage wells already include bungee tie-down points, and the molded bottle holders can accommodate some accessory mounts without modification.
