Pelican Apex 100 Kayak | 10ft Recreational Sit-In Kayak
The Pelican Apex 100 kayak is our versatile 10-foot sit-in kayak designed for recreational paddlers exploring lakes, ponds, and calm rivers. We built the Apex 100 with our proprietary RAM-X™ multi-layer polyethylene hull that delivers exceptional impact resistance while keeping the weight manageable for solo transport and storage.
This kayak features an ERGOFORM™ padded backrest with adjustable seating position, allowing you to customize comfort for extended paddling sessions. The twin-arched multi-chine hull provides excellent primary stability for beginners while maintaining maneuverability that more experienced paddlers appreciate. At just 36 pounds, the Apex 100 is easy to car-top and carry to the water.
We designed the cockpit with a spacious opening and adjustable footrests to accommodate paddlers of varying heights. Front and rear storage compartments with bungee tie-downs keep your gear secure, while the molded-in cup holder and storage tray behind the seat keep essentials within easy reach during your paddle.
Apex 100 specifications

RAM-X™ Hull Construction & Durability
We manufacture the Pelican Apex 100 kayak using our exclusive RAM-X™ multi-layer polyethylene process that creates a hull significantly more impact-resistant than standard single-layer plastic kayaks. This thermoformed construction method fuses multiple layers of polyethylene under high temperature and pressure, resulting in a hull that flexes on impact rather than cracking.
The twin-arched multi-chine hull shape distributes your weight efficiently while creating secondary stability that prevents tipping in choppy conditions. We integrated UV stabilizers throughout the material to prevent sun damage and fading even after years of outdoor storage. The textured deck surface provides secure footing when entering or exiting the kayak from docks or shorelines.

Seating System & Cockpit Comfort
ERGOFORM™ Adjustable Seating
The Apex 100 features our ERGOFORM™ padded backrest system with multiple adjustment positions that let you dial in the perfect seat angle for your paddling style. The contoured foam padding provides lumbar support during multi-hour trips while remaining breathable to prevent heat buildup on warm days.
We designed the seat with quick-adjust straps that secure to molded attachment points, allowing tool-free repositioning even while on the water. The cockpit opening measures 36 inches long by 19 inches wide, providing easy entry and exit while maintaining structural rigidity for the hull.
Storage Capacity & Gear Organization
The Pelican Apex 100 kayak includes both bow and stern storage areas with heavy-duty bungee cord tie-downs that keep dry bags, coolers, and camping gear secure during transport. The rear tank well measures 18 by 24 inches and can accommodate a 20-liter dry bag or small cooler for day-trip provisions.
We molded a recessed storage tray directly behind the seat that’s perfect for phones, car keys, sunscreen, and snacks you want to access quickly. An integrated drink holder keeps beverages upright and prevents spills. The front deck bungee area provides additional quick-access storage for items like throw ropes, maps, or fishing tackle boxes.

Pelican Apex 100 Kayak Questions & Answers
The Apex 100 has a maximum capacity of 275 pounds, which includes the paddler's body weight plus all gear and equipment. For optimal performance and handling, we recommend loading the kayak to approximately 70-80% of maximum capacity, which would be 195-220 pounds total.
This capacity comfortably accommodates most adult paddlers with 40-60 pounds of day-trip gear including water, food, safety equipment, and personal items.
The Pelican Apex 100 kayak weighs just 36 pounds, making it one of the lighter 10-foot kayaks available and very manageable for solo transport. Most adults can comfortably lift and carry the Apex 100 using the center carrying handle.
We designed three strategically placed handles — bow, stern, and center cockpit — to give you options for one-person or two-person carrying depending on the distance to your launch point. The 36-pound weight also makes roof-top loading much easier than heavier composite or tandem kayaks.
We designed the Apex 100 for recreational paddling in calm to moderate water conditions. This includes lakes, ponds, slow-moving rivers, protected bays, and coastal areas with minimal wave action.
The twin-arched hull provides excellent stability for flatwater exploration and the 10-foot length offers good maneuverability in tight spaces while maintaining straight-line tracking. We do not recommend the Apex 100 for whitewater, ocean surf zones, or conditions with waves exceeding 1-2 feet as it's optimized for recreational touring rather than rough-water performance.
The Apex 100 does not include a paddle with purchase. We sell paddles separately so you can choose the length and blade style that matches your height and paddling preferences.
For the Apex 100, we typically recommend a paddle between 220-240cm depending on your torso height and paddling style. The kayak includes molded paddle park clips on both sides of the cockpit where you can secure your paddle when taking breaks.
The Apex 100 cockpit opening measures 36 inches long by 19 inches wide, providing generous entry and exit space while maintaining hull rigidity. This cockpit size accommodates paddlers with waist sizes up to approximately 42-44 inches comfortably.
The adjustable footrests slide along tracks to fit leg lengths from 26 to 40 inches, making the Apex 100 suitable for paddlers ranging from about 5 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall. The seat positioning can also be adjusted to fine-tune the fit for different body proportions.
Our RAM-X multi-layer polyethylene construction is significantly more impact-resistant and durable than standard single-layer rotomolded plastic. The RAM-X process fuses multiple polyethylene layers under high temperature and pressure, creating a hull that flexes on impact rather than cracking or puncturing.
RAM-X hulls are also more rigid than standard polyethylene, which improves tracking performance and reduces hull flex during aggressive paddling. We integrate UV stabilizers throughout the material to prevent sun damage, fading, and brittleness even after years of outdoor storage and use.
Yes, the Apex 100's deck and hull can accommodate aftermarket accessories including fish finders, rod holders, anchor systems, and additional storage. The flat deck surfaces behind the cockpit and in the bow area work well for mounting tracks, bases, and hardware.
Many paddlers install flush-mount rod holders in the rear tank well or side rails for fishing. We recommend using marine-grade stainless steel hardware and proper sealant when drilling into the hull. For more fishing-specific features from the factory, our Sentinel models come with integrated rod holders and accessory mounts.
