Pelican Summit 100X Kayak – Stable Sit-On-Top for Lakes & Rivers

★★★★★4.8· thousands of reviews

The Summit 100X is our sit-on-top recreational kayak engineered for first-time paddlers, families, and anyone who values easy entry and confidence on the water. At 10 feet long and 30 inches wide, the Summit 100X offers exceptional primary stability—you'll feel steady from the moment you push off the dock.

We built this kayak from twin-sheet thermoform construction, fusing two UV-resistant polyethylene layers with an air-core center for rigidity without excess weight. The 52-pound hull is light enough to cartop solo yet tough enough to handle rocky shorelines and dock bumps season after season. A large rear tank well with bungee tie-downs holds a cooler, dry bag, or fishing crate, while the molded center console keeps your phone, keys, and snacks within arm's reach. Adjustable footrests accommodate paddlers from 5'2" to 6'4", and the twin tunnel hull tracks straight even in light chop.

Twin-Sheet Thermoform Hull & UV Protection

We engineer every Summit 100X hull using twin-sheet thermoform technology—two layers of UV-stabilized polyethylene fused around an air-core center. This construction delivers the impact resistance of rotomolded kayaks with 15% less weight and superior rigidity.

The outer polyethylene skin resists fading, chalking, and brittleness even after years of sun exposure. We add UV inhibitors throughout the resin, not just as a topcoat, so the protection never wears off. The result is a kayak that looks new and performs consistently whether you paddle once a month or every weekend. The twin-sheet design also creates a stiffer platform underfoot—less flex means more efficient paddle strokes and better tracking in wind or current.

Stability & Tracking for Beginners
Sizing & fit

Stability & Tracking for Beginners

The Pelican Summit 100X kayak’s 30-inch beam and flat-bottom profile deliver beginner-friendly primary stability—the kayak feels planted and secure when you’re sitting still or making your first few strokes. New paddlers appreciate how forgiving the hull is during entry and exit; you won’t feel tippy stepping on or off a dock.

Twin Tunnel Hull Design

Our twin tunnel hull channels water along two shallow keels that run the length of the boat. These tunnels improve straight-line tracking without sacrificing the quick turning radius you need in narrow rivers or crowded launch areas. You’ll spend less energy correcting your course and more time enjoying the scenery. The hull also sheds water quickly when you pull the kayak onto shore, so you’re not hauling extra weight back to your vehicle.

Styling

Deck Rigging & Onboard Storage

The Summit 100X rear tank well measures 24 inches long by 18 inches wide, secured by heavy-duty bungee cord. We designed this space to hold a 16-quart cooler, a 20-liter dry bag, or a snap-in fishing crate. The bungees are replaceable—just thread new cord through the molded eyelets when the originals wear out.

Up front, the molded center console keeps your phone, car keys, and energy bars within easy reach. A recessed bottle holder fits standard water bottles or insulated tumblers, and a paddle park slot on the right gunwale lets you secure your paddle hands-free while you take photos or grab a snack. Every storage feature is molded into the hull, so there are no loose brackets or hardware to rattle or corrode. If you’re considering other models in the same class, our recreational kayak lineup includes options with additional rod holders and deeper tank wells for anglers.

Perfect first kayak for our family
We bought the Summit 100X as our first kayak and it's been fantastic. My wife and I both use it—super stable and easy to get in and out of. We've taken it on three lake trips so far and it tracks really well even when it's a little windy. The storage in back fits our cooler perfectly.

Stable and confidence-inspiring
I'm a new paddler and was nervous about tipping. The Summit 100X feels rock solid. I've stood up on it a few times to stretch my legs and it barely wobbles. The seat is comfortable for a couple hours and the footrests adjust easily. Really happy with this purchase.

Great value for the quality
I've owned rotomolded kayaks before and this one is noticeably lighter without feeling flimsy. The hull is solid and the finish still looks new after a full season. Easy to cartop by myself and the built-in handles are perfectly placed. Would definitely recommend to anyone getting started.

Very stable, easy to paddle
The Summit 100X is exactly what I needed for casual lake paddling. It's wide and stable, turns easily, and has plenty of room for my gear. Only reason I'm not giving five stars is I wish it had a rod holder, but that's not what it's designed for. For recreational use it's excellent.

Confidence booster for my kids
We got this for our two kids (ages 10 and 13) to share and they love it. They feel safe and can paddle it together or solo. The kayak is light enough for me to lift onto the roof rack alone, and it's held up great on rocky shores and sandy beaches. Best summer purchase we made.

Tracks straight and handles chop well
I paddle the Summit 100X on a large reservoir that can get choppy in the afternoon. The twin tunnel hull really works—it tracks straight without constant correction and stays stable in small waves. The UV protection seems legit; the color hasn't faded at all after leaving it outside all summer.

Good to know

Common Questions About the Summit 100X

The Summit 100X has a maximum weight capacity of 325 pounds. This limit includes the paddler, any passengers, and all gear.

For optimal performance and stability, we recommend staying within 80% of the maximum capacity—around 260 pounds total. This gives you a safety margin and ensures the kayak rides at the correct waterline for best tracking and speed.

The Summit 100X is designed for calm lakes, slow-moving rivers, and protected bays. It performs well in light chop and can handle mild wind conditions.

We do not recommend using this kayak in ocean surf, strong currents, or open coastal waters with waves over one foot. The sit-on-top design and recreational hull are optimized for flat water, not offshore or rough-water environments. Always check local weather and water conditions before launching.

At 52 pounds and 10 feet long, the Summit 100X is light enough for most adults to lift onto a roof rack solo. Use kayak saddles, foam blocks, or J-cradles attached to your crossbars.

Secure the hull with two cam straps across the top, then add bow and stern tie-downs to your bumper hooks or tow points. Position the kayak hull-side-down (seat facing up) for best aerodynamics. Tighten straps firmly but avoid over-cranking, which can deform the hull over long trips.

The Summit 100X works for light, casual fishing but lacks dedicated angling features like rod holders or a tackle box recess. The rear tank well can hold a small crate or tackle bag, and the stable platform lets you cast and reel comfortably.

If fishing is your primary activity, consider our Strike 100NXT, which includes molded rod holders, gear tracks, and additional storage designed specifically for anglers. The Summit 100X is best suited for recreational paddling with occasional fishing opportunities.

We recommend a lightweight recreational paddle between 220 and 240 centimeters in length. Most adults find 230 cm ideal for the Summit 100X's 30-inch beam.

Look for a paddle with asymmetrical blades (more efficient stroke) and a low-angle shaft design (relaxed, cruising style). Aluminum or fiberglass shafts with plastic or nylon blades offer the best balance of durability and weight for recreational paddling. Avoid heavy, wide-blade paddles designed for whitewater—they'll tire you out quickly on flat water.

After each use, rinse the Summit 100X with fresh water to remove dirt, sand, and any salt or minerals. Use a soft brush or sponge with mild dish soap for stubborn grime. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents, which can damage the UV-stabilized finish.

Store the kayak out of direct sunlight when possible, either indoors or under a UV-resistant cover. If storing outdoors, prop it upside-down on padded sawhorses or a kayak rack to prevent warping. Never leave the kayak resting on a hard surface for extended periods—the hull can deform under its own weight. In winter, store in a garage or shed to protect from ice and extreme temperature swings.

The Summit 100X is designed as a solo kayak with a single molded seat. The 325-pound weight capacity technically allows for two small children or a very light adult with a child, but the seating arrangement and paddle interference make tandem use impractical.

For comfortable two-person paddling, we recommend our Flow 106 Tandem Kayak, which features two adjustable seats, dual footrests, and a longer hull designed for synchronized paddling. The tandem model also includes convertible seating so one person can paddle solo from the center position.
